JSLAB commendation regulations

Section 1 General regulations

Article 1 These regulations are established by Article 13 of the by-laws

Article 2 According to these regulations the types of commendations shall be the JSLAB Award and the JSLAB Outstanding Presentation Award.

Section 2 JSLAB Award

Article 3 The qualifications for receiving the award, besides Article 12 in the by-laws, are being a regular member of this society who has achieved outstanding research results concerning lactic acid bacteria etc. or has made some contribution to the activities of JSLAB, and is expected to play a greater role in the future.

Article 4 The conferment of the award will in principle be as follows.

(1) No more than 1 award will be given per year
(2) Each award will be comprised of a certificate of merit and a prize

Article 5 For research results that are candidates for award selection, we will emphasize original scientific papers and review articles published (including those selected for publication) in the JSLAB journal or the Bioscience of Microbiota, Food and Health (BMFH) Journal, as well as items publicized at the JSLAB convention or symposium. However, results published in related scientific journals can also be taken into account.

Article 6 Regular members can recommend award candidates to the Academic Society Award Recipient Selection Committee listed in Article 13 of the by-laws.

2. Those who wish to recommend award recipient candidates must submit in writing their reason for recommendation to the academic society secretariat.

Article 7 The selection of award recipient candidates will be conducted by the Academic Society Award Recipient Selection Committee established within the Board of Directors, and award recipients will be determined after discussion with the Board of Directors.

Article 8 The Academic Society Award Recipient Selection Committee will select award recipients from recommended candidates. During this time, it can decide other regulations for matters concerning the selection other than what is stipulated in these regulations.

Article 9 The Academic Society Award Recipient Selection Committee can request a report of individual award recipient candidates.

Article 10 The Academic Society Award Recipient Selection Committee must report to the president about the selection result of the award recipient candidates along with the selection criteria.

Article 11 The president will submit the report described in the previous article to the Board of Directors, and determine the award recipients after obtaining the Board’s approval.

Section 3 JSLAB Young Outstanding Presentation Award

Article 12 The qualification for receiving the award, besides Article 12 Section 2 in the by-laws, is a person who has contributed the most to writing on the application subject, and for a regular member, someone who is aged 35 or less at the end of the fiscal year in which the award is given.

Article 13 The conferment of the award will in principle be as follows.

(1) The application subject is the Outstanding Presentation Award application subject and is handled separately from the general subject.
(2) The number of awards to be presented will be established at each convention.
(3) The award will include the award certificate and prize.

Article 14 Selection of recipients will be carried out by the Presentation Award Selection Committee.

2. The composition of the Presentation Award Selection Committee will in principle be the directors, However, regular members other than directors can supplement as necessary at each convention.
3. The Presentation Award Selection Committee must report to the president about the outcome of their selection during the convention.

Article 15 The president, based on the report of the Presentation Award Selection Committee, determine the award recipient through discussion with the Board of Directors, and will present both the award certificate and the award prize during the convention.

Supplementary provision These regulations were set and made effective on March 30, 2014.

JSLAB honorary member recommendation regulations

Article 1 These regulations are established by Article 15 of the by-laws.

Article 2 Matters concerning recommendations of honorary members, in addition to what is stipulated in Article 5 Section 4 of the constitution, shall be as prescribed by these regulations.

Article 3 The qualifications for honorary members are, in principle, those that meet the following.

(1) A regular member of this academic society that is also an officer or trustee aged 70 or older and is a highly distinguished academic that will contribute to the development of the academic society.

Article 4 The method for recommending honorary member candidates to the general meeting is as follows.

(1) A summary of achievements will be attached to the list of names of honorary member candidates and will be submitted to the Board of Directors after being prepared by a director.

Supplementary provision These regulations were set and made effective on July 18, 2014.
